DIY Driftwood Sunflower

I love sunflowers, they’re one of my favorite flowers! They’re so bright and full of life. When I found these driftwood pieces at my local Hobby Lobby I thought they looked a lot like petals of a flower and thus the DIY Driftwood Sunflower was born. Once I found some more pieces I needed to complete the project, I couldn’t wait to get home and start. I hope you follow along with this DIY and decide you want to give this one a go too! It was an absolute blast to make!

Driftwood Pieces – Hobby Lobby
Wood Round
Wood Slice
Metal Word Plates – Hobby Lobby
Paints- Key West and Antique Gold
Antique Wax

First, I painted the large wood round with the key west paint.

Second, I painted all of the driftwood pieces with the antique gold paint.

Third, I painted the wood slice with the Antique Wax.

Fourth, once all of the petals were dry, I used the Antique Wax around the edges of them.

Fifth, I hot glued the wood slice to the center of the large wood round.

Sixth, I hot glued the largest of the petals around the large wood round, butting them up against the wood slice in the center.

Seventh, I hot glued a second layer of the smaller petals around the top of the first layer.

Eighth, I hot glued the remaining smaller petal pieces into the empty areas.

Finally, I hot glued the metal word plates to some of the petals. I then drilled two small holes at the top of the wood round and tied off a large length of twine through holes to create a hanger.

Here it is all finished, how do you think it turned out? I absolutely love it, and I think the key west paint in the background really makes the sunflower pop! I had so much fun making this DIY Driftwood Sunflower and I think I may just go get more supplies and make another. When I take my next trip into my craft booth, I’ll be adding this beauty to all my crafts! I’m hoping you enjoyed this DIY and decide you want to give it a shot too! What do you think, will you be making this one?
