Dollar Tree Summer Watermelon

I absolutely love making craft projects for Summer time! Summer has to be one of my favorite seasons, and the projects are endless, they’re so full of color and life! When I was going through some of my supplies I came across a half wood round I had left over from a previous project, and thought wow, that looks just like a slice of watermelon. I knew I had watermelon napkins that would look amazing with it and my project was born! Follow along with this Dollar Tree Summer Watermelon, and hopefully you’ll give one a shot too!

Supplies:

1/2 Dollar Tree Wood Round – Left over from this project you can see here https://creatingthroughchaos.com/diy-dollar-tree-watermelon/

Summer Cutout – Michael’s

Watermelon Napkin – https://shopcreatingthroughchaos.com/collections/napkin-bundles

Twine

Ribbons- Matching Colors in Project

White and Black Paint

Spackling

First, the wood round had holes in the bottom, so I filled those with spakle. I then painted it with the white paint. Once it was dry I drilled new holes into the top for the hanger.

Second, I gave the wood round half a coating of Mod Podge and then opened up the watermelon napkin over it. I then cut off the excess. The link to the napkins is above in the supplies list.

Third, I painted the Summer cutout with the black paint.

Fourth, I cut a length of the twine, pulling it through the drilled holes and tying it off to create the hanger.

Fifth, I glued the Summer cutout to the watermelon.

Sixth, I cut pieces of the ribbons I chose to match the project, and secured them together, making a bow by tying a small piece of twine around the center.

Finally, I glued a button to the center of the bow, and then glued the whole thing to the top corner of the watermelon.

Here it is all finished, how do you think it turned out? I absolutely love this project, it came out exactly how I envisioned it would. It’s so bright and cheerful, and screams Summer to me! I’m thinking even if it didn’t have the Summer cutout it would still be amazing! I can’t wait to get this craft into my craft booth on my next restocking trip! So what do you think, will you be giving this Dollar Tree Summer Watermelon a shot too?
