I was shopping at Dollar Tree again….!! HAHA! I came across this wooden unfinished frame in the summer area, I didn’t think of it as a sun which is what I think it was supposed to be, maybe it is supposed to be a flower, I saw a sunflower, not a sun . I had big plans going in my head, about using burlap in the center and buttons etc…but as with all my ideas things changed once I get the project going. Does anyone else have this happen? I took a different route, and it turned out AMAZING!! Come see how cute this Dollar Tree sunflower can came out!

Supplies:

DIY Wooden Sun (Dollar Tree)

Small Aluminum Can

Cinnamon (Dollar Tree)

Mod Podge

Floral Foam (Dollar Tree)

Spanish Moss (Dollar Tree)

Dowel (Dollar Tree)

Raffia

Burnt Umber & Kings Gold Acrylic Paint

First, coat your can with a heavy coat of Mod Podge then sprinkle with cinnamon. Once that has dried, add another coat of Mod Podge. Let it fully dry, I usually let it sit overnight. Humidity changes dry time.

Second step, paint your sunflower. I painted the sunflower in kings gold, then I watered down some of the burnt umber and put it along the edges and made individual petals using the watered down paint. Next I painted the center piece burnt umber and then used kings gold to make the lines.

Third, I painted the dowel in burnt umber and then wiped off the excess with a baby wipe. I wanted it to look stained not painted. Once it dried I glued it to the back of the sunflower.

Finally I cut the floral foam to fit inside my can, then stuck the dowel in the center. Then I glued some Spanish moss around the top. Finally I added a raffia bow around the center of the can. DONE!

How adorable is this?! I love it!

Love a super easy and cute DIY, especially when I can get most of the supplies at Dollar Tree or when I have most of it on hand!
