It is almost yard sale season again and I am just now getting around to making over last years finds LOL! I got this shelf for $1 at a yard sale last summer and I finally decided it was time for a makeover! It was not much to look at when I bought it, but for $1 you can look past that. It is amazing what a little paint and time can do! Check out this yard sale shelf makeover and let me know what you think!

Here is the before, it was VERY dark and dated.

I used DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint, in the color Vintage. The above is it with one coat of the chalk paint, it already looks soo much better!

Once the first coat was dry, I applied the second coat. Then I put the original handles back on, they matched perfectly to the paint color I used.

After the second coat, I took it outside and sanded all the edges down. It gave it such an amazing rustic, vintage and shabby chic look! i loved the brown showing through after I sanded it!

I love how it turned out, and I especially love the color!!

What a difference a little paint makes! I love it!

Do you realize that the shelf is for cookbooks and recipe cards? My dad made my mother and I each one.
